The state government, which is facing all-round criticism regarding the much talked about teacher appointment corruption in West Bengal, has raised objections regarding the CBI FIR in municipal appointments.
Regarding this, a letter has been written by the state government to the central agency in which it has been claimed that it should not be acceptable for the CBI to register an FIR in this matter despite the stay by the Supreme Court.
The Bengal government has written to the CBI, questioning how it can register an FIR in the matter of municipal appointments even after the top court directed the CBI to "not take any action on the matter" till the matter is heard on Friday.
The state's standing counsel in the apex court, Aastha Sharma, wrote to the SP of CBI's anti-corruption branch, "It is extremely unfortunate that the CBI, being a central agency, is resorting to such secretive measures to deliberately disregard the clear observations of the Supreme Court." working way.
Sharma said, "The act of registering the FIR is completely contemptuous and unjustified despite the observations of the Hon'ble Apex Court. Sharma said the state would inform the apex court on the "arrogant conduct" of the CBI to curtail its authority.
A division bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha is likely to hear the matter on Friday.
Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay of the Calcutta HC had on April 21 directed the CBI to register a fresh FIR and take up the probe into the municipal appointments on the basis of a report by the ED. The Bengal government challenged this in the Supreme Court on 23 April.
